Biographical Sketch of Dr. Emil Dean Peeler

The PeelersEMIL DEAN PEELER was born and reared in Sacramento, California, the third son of Arlie and Thomasina Peeler. He attended Oakwood University and is a graduate of Loma Linda University (Bachelor of Arts), Andrews University (Master of Divinity), and Claremont School of Theology (Doctor of Ministry). He shares his life with his wife, Brenda, and has three adult daughters; La Donna, Nicole, and Alisha, and one grandson, Jeremiah Emil.

For over thirty-two years, Dr. Peeler has served in various positions of leadership in the SDA Church most notably as pastor, evangelist, associate ministerial director, author, church growth consultant, and college professor.  Notably, he led with distinction four congregations as senior pastor: Compton Community Church in Compton, CA; and then, for over six years, the Sixteenth Street Church in San Bernardino, CA.  After those assignments, he served for nearly four years as Associate Ministerial Director for Church Growth and Evangelism in the North Pacific Union Conference where he successfully planted three new churches.

Upon returning to local church ministry, Dr. Peeler served as senior pastor of the Maranatha Church in San Diego; CA. where he began the weekly television broadcast entitled Journey to Joy. He then served as the senior pastor of the historic Dupont Park SDA Church in Washington D.C. for nearly five years as well as being an adjunct professor of Washington Adventist University (formerly Columbia Union College.

In August of 2008, Dr. Peeler accepted a call to return back to California as the Director of Evangelism and Church Growth for the 70,000-member Southeastern California Conference and for nearly five years served that conference with distinction. Upon returning to his hometown of Sacramento to help care for his ailing parents, he continued to serve as an adjunct professor at Loma Linda University in addition to being director/speaker for Open Bible Ministries, Inc., and as pastor for leadership and church growth at the Capitol City SDA Church in Sacramento. In July of 2016, he began a new phase of his ministry by becoming the senior pastor of Capitol Hill SDA Church in Washington DC.

Dr. Peeler has received many awards and citations from churches, political dignitaries, and community organizations. In the fall of 2001, he was chosen to be National Adventist Man of the Year by the F. L. Peterson Men’s Society in Columbus, Ohio. Thus far the Lord has blessed him to baptize over 6,500 people into the body of Christ.  He is in constant demand as a preacher, mentor, motivational speaker and evangelist around the globe. His other passions include mentoring young ministers, sports, producing music, and writing.  His motto for ministry is, “When you build people you build the kingdom.”
