From its inception Sabbath School has focused on four emphases that are still prominent to this day: fellowship development, community outreach, Bible study, and foreign mission. A solid balance of these elements characterizes Sabbath School at Capitol Hill.
Sabbath School Classes
Beginning at 9:30am, the Adult Sabbath School classes meet in the Main Sanctuary and our Young Adult Sabbath School class (age 18+) meets in the balcony. It is a place where the toughest questions and subject matters are tackled… a place where current issues and timeless truths converge… a place where you can choose to join in or choose to remain anonymous (and be judged for neither)… a place where you will be challenged to reconsider all you think you know about life and about God. There are over 5 adult classes to choose from. We invite you to sit in on as many classes as you like to find the one that suits you.
Most weeks, the Sabbath School period will also include music, testimonies, and short presentations on matters of health, fitness, stewardship, mission stories, outreach activities, etc.
From 9:45am – 10:30am, we host Children Sabbath School geared to their age groups. The classes for children—Beginner, for ages birth to 2; Kindergarten, for ages 3 – 6; and Primary, for ages 7 – 9—meet in classrooms on our lower level. Youth Sabbath School classes—Junior, for ages 10 to 12; Earliteen, for ages 13-15; and Youth, for ages 16-18—meet in a high-energy, interactive environment, in the 10th street annex adjacent to the church. And because your kids’ safety is of utmost importance, all workers are trained and cleared through local and federal background checks. Sabbath School is a key part of Capitol Hill’s Children’s and Youth Ministries. Click here for copy of our Children/Youth Sabbath School brochure.
Sabbath School Bible study guides (all ages):
These guides are distributed in the various classes, however, you may also access print, online and phone app content from Beginner through the Adult Bible Study Guide. Also included are the Kindergarten and Primary audio podcasts, the Kindergarten animation podcast, the weekly reading of the Collegiate Quarterly, Sabbath School University video, Sabbath School University audio, and podcasts in various languages.
